We want Idris Elba as the new James Bond! In times where social media has a lot of impact, people felt offended by Anthony Horowitz’s opinion about Idriss Elba being “too street” to be the next James Bond.

“I was asked in my interview if Idris Elba would make a good James Bond. In the article I expressed the opinion that to my mind Adrian Lester would be a better choice, but I’m a writer not a casting director so what do I know?” -Anthony Horowitz

The twittosphere showed warm support for the actor, which was quite interesting! People are ready to see a Black James Bond on the big screen! Is that the Barack or the Serena effect?

Jealous, Racist, or just unrealistic…

However, some do feel otherwise about a Black 007; according to Yaphet Kotto who was Dr Kananga/Mr Big in Live and Let die in 1973. The actor who is also from African descent Cameroon to be exact says that he would be “unrealistic” for James Bond to be black and that “Black men should stop trying to play white heroes.” Wouldn’ t you be a little jealous Mr Kotto? We may agree to disagree, but he has point when he ended saying “We have pens. Put a black man in a role that no one else has established.” Former James Bond, Roger Moore, thinks that James bond should be English-English. However, Moore denies racism after his comments made headlines all over the internet. Since James Bond is fictional my question is what is the meaning of « English-English », « too street », or « unrealistic »?

Adrian Lester naaaah… We want Idris Elba!

Although Anthony Horowitz suggested another Black English actor Adrian Lester who was in “The day after tomorrow” or “Primary colors” people were not having it.

Charming, sophisticated, polished! Idris is just suave… I believe like a lot of people that he would embody James bond’s character very well. I almost forgot Elba answered in really a simplistic way by saying ”Always keeps smiling!! It takes no energy and never hurts! Learned that from the street!!” then told Variety “If human beings want to know if there’s any connectivity between all of us, the one thing I’ve heard around the world universally is that, You’ll be great at James Bond!” I found a really nice video made by Hadaya Turner director of Theverge.com of Idris Elbas as James Bond. Idris Elba doesn’t need James bond to be a movie star. He is one great chameleon of acting and we like him regardless!  Meanwhile, you can watch his latest film “Beasts of no nation” available on Netflix October 18th.

PS: To Idris If you ever get the role you owe us on that one!
