What if Jesus had decided to come back and chill with his homeboys ?

“Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains.” James 5 :7.

Faithful watchers of “Black Jesus”, a year has gone by and he is finally back! No!!! Im not talking about Yeezus, but yes Compton’s own “Black Jesus”!

The series was created by Aaron McGruder (Boondocks) and Matt Clattenburg (Trailer Park Boys)

Modern Day Jesus

It is a 20mn comedy show about  “Black Jesus” living in modern-day Compton, California. His mission is to spread love and kindness throughout the neighborhood with his followers, who are not so ready to receive it. In the first episode, the cursing and the conversation about weed kind shocked me as they introduced Jesus and his homies/apostles.

The Cast

Trayvon, the nerd played by the humorous web personality King Bach

Fish, the ex convict sexy Andra Fuller that you may know from Black and Sexy TV series “Roomie Lover Friends”

Maggie, The ghetto pretty social media addict Kali Hawk from “Bridesmaid”

Boonie, The looser Corey Holcomb from “Wedding ringer”

Vic, the bitter landlord Charly Murphy who questions Jesus about his identity

Lloyd, John Witherspoon as the funny grumpy homeless

Without forgetting our lead character our Urban Bohemian Hippy Jesus played by Gerald Johnson

It’s a very familiar cast and every member of the cast has a comedy background. As you get through the first season Jesus and his followers are trying to build a community garden where they can grow weed in between tomatoes with all the obstacles that it comes along with.  It’s a nice allegory for nothing worth having comes easy and for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. If you have not watched the first season yet I let you catch up. In the second season premiering september 18th on Adult Swim apparently Jesus and his homies are trying to get things legit…

“Don’t forget love thy neighbor!
